AN autistic boy's dream of having a full-size replica Doctor Who Tardis in his garden has come true.
The
youngster, who has Asperger's Syndrome, is obsessed with the BBC TV
character Doctor Who and his mum launched an online crowd-funder appeal
last month to pay for the unusual play house. After Inverclyde Now
featured the appeal page, readers and local business Cardwell Garden
Centre helped her reach the target.
Now the replica of the iconic time travel
machine has been completed at the boy's home in Greenock. His mum Tanya
Robertson said: "The tardis has arrived. Kai is over the moon. He's
already planning more adventures in space and time."
Tanya thanked local builder Alec Kane who
constructed the tardis. When she launched the appeal, Tanya wrote on the
appeal webpage: "My little Doctor Who fan is desperate for a replica
Tardis in the garden. Someone has volunteered to build one for him but
we need £400 for the materials. I wouldn't normally do this kind of
thing but it would mean so much to him and we'd never be able to afford
it ourselves.
"My son loves everything about Doctor Who,
right back to the very first Doctor 51 years ago. Having a Tardis in the
garden to escape to when the stresses of the world get too much would
mean the world to him. (It doesn't actually have to be bigger on the
inside!)"
